WhatsApp postpones changes to user terms and conditions until mid-May NOW

WhatsApp will postpone the planned adjustment of its terms of use due to the fuss that has arisen about it. With the adjustment, user information would be shared with parent company Facebook. According to WhatsApp, there is a lot of confusion among users about this and more time is needed to explain data use.

WhatsApp actually wanted the adjustment to take effect on February 8. Users had to agree to the new terms or they would lose access to their accounts, it was announced earlier this month. This deadline has now been moved to May 15.

However, this does not apply to the Netherlands. Within the European Union, WhatsApp cannot share user information with Facebook, due to the European AVL privacy regulation.

Billionaire and technology entrepreneur Elon Musk previously made a call to switch to the competing app Signal. This has led to an increase in the number of new users of that service. This app also appears to be gaining popularity in the Netherlands, just like its competitor Telegram.
