Van der Zande is disappointed, but ‘klokkie’ for Catsburg and Dontje

Van der Zande drove in the Cadillac of his new team Chip Ganassi Racing fast towards leader Filipe Albuquerque, precisely his successor at his previous employer Wayne Taylor Racing. With a few minutes to go, Van der Zande had to give up the attack due to a flat tire. With his teammates Kevin Magnussen and Scott Dixon, he finally finished fifth in the DPi class, the fastest cars on the field. So the victory again went to Wayne Taylor Racing, which has been driving Acuras since this year.

Dutch success was nevertheless achieved at the Daytona International Speedway. In the GT Le Mans class, victory went to the Corvette team with Nicky Catsburg. In the GT Daytonas, the Mercedes of the HTP Winward team, with Indy Dontje, was the fastest. The winners will all receive a coveted Rolex watch.

Deception

The debut of Racing Team Netherlands in Florida ended in a deception. After almost two hours of racing, Frits van Eerd crashed due to oil on the track. A little later the damage turned out to be too great. It marked the first time in five years that the Dutch team failed to reach the finish of a match in the LMP2 class. In the same class, Rinus van Kalmthout also made his debut with DragonSpeed, but that team also dropped out. Jeroen Bleekemolen hoped for a victory in the LMP3, but his team Riley Motorsport was very unlucky at the start of the race and eventually finished fourth in the LMP3’s.
