The new film by director David Verbeek, Dead & Beautiful, will be shown in Dutch cinemas in the autumn. Producer Lemming Film and distributor Periscoop announced this on Saturday.
The English and Mandarin spoken vampire film, in which actor Gijs Blom plays a leading role, will premiere next week at the digital edition of the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR).
Dead & Beautiful is a psychological thriller about a group of young, immensely wealthy friends in a futuristic Asian metropolis who, in their search for tension, succumb to a completely out of control behavioral experiment.
David Verbeek studied film, photography and philosophy at the New School University in New York and film directing at the Netherlands Film Academy. David Verbeek’s work has found an international stage from the start. After graduating, he left for China, where he made Shanghai Trance, which was selected for the IFFR Tiger competition in 2008.
His next movie RU There reached the prestigious Cannes festival in 2010. The film was selected for the Un Certain Regard program. The productions he made afterwards were all selected for major festivals such as Toronto, Chicago and Rome.
When the cinemas reopen after this current lockdown, actor Gijs Blom can first be seen in the expensive war epic The Battle of the Scheldt. The film was first due out in December, but this had to be postponed due to the corona pandemic. The Battle of the Scheldt, the most expensive Dutch film in 15 years, has already received rave reviews from the Dutch film press.
