Twitter was hit by a global outage in the night from Thursday to Friday. The social media company has announced that it is investigating the cause of the malfunction.
“We know people have problems tweeting and using Twitter. We are trying to fix this problem as soon as possible,” said a Twitter spokesperson.
The outage started on Thursday evening around 11:30 PM (Dutch time). Since then, many users have been unable to post any messages or only to a lesser extent.
According to the outage website Downdetector.com, tens of thousands of reports of the outage have already been made. Users were shown a message saying “Tweet failed: Something went wrong. Please try again later.”
More than an hour after the start of the outage, the platform appeared to be partially operational again.
The company says it has no evidence that the outage was caused by a security breach or a hack. There would be problems with Twitter’s internal systems.
