These films will be released in theaters this week | NOW

A comedy with Jandino Asporaat and a new sci-fi movie with George Clooney are among the biggest cinema releases this week. A total of nine new titles will be published. See which films are involved below.

Bon Bini: Judeska in da House (2020) – comedy

The hot-tempered Judeska and her niece end up on the estate of the Minister of the Interior, just when a national lockdown is declared. The Antillean chicken saleswoman soon finds herself at odds with the lady of the house, who in turn tries to protect her son. Leading actor Jandino Asporaat had previously had cinema successes with his previous two Bon Bini Hollandmovies.

The Midnight Sky (2020) – science fiction

After a global disaster, scientist Augustine is one of the few people still alive. The scientist, who has a base on the North Pole, realizes that there is another group of astronauts floating around in the universe. To warn them of the dangers on Earth, Augustine must reach a stronger antenna. George Clooney is both the lead actor and director of this new science fiction movie. The Midnight Sky appears in theaters on Thursday and can also be seen on Netflix from 23 December.

Cats & Dogs: Put The Paws Together! (2020) – family film

The intelligent dogs and cats of this film series have been living in peace for ten years thanks to a special surveillance system, but a hacker throws a spanner in the works. With the beasts back against each other, a team of inexperienced agents must try to restore the animal world. The previous two films about spying dogs and cats were released in 2001 and 2010.

Come here that I kiss you (2019) – drama

After her mother is killed in a car accident, nine-year-old Mona soon meets her father’s new girlfriend. She learns to adapt and keep others happy, but that also comes at the expense of herself. As an adult woman, she must learn to take matters into her own hands. The book adaptation Come here that I kiss you was screened at the Netherlands Film Festival in October and was then awarded the Prize of the Dutch Film Criticism.

Ammonite (2020) – romantic drama

This love drama is based on the life of paleontologist Mary Anning, who takes in a young woman in England in the nineteenth century. While things don’t seem to get together at first, a romance blossoms that changes their lives forever. The lead roles in Ammonite are played by Kate Winslet and Saoirse Ronan.

Come Away (2020) – fantasy

This fantasy movie stops the main characters from Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan together for a new story. Main characters Alice and Peter are brother and sister, in a family torn apart by grief. While their parents mourn the death of their oldest brother, the two children are immersed in a fantasy world. Father and mother are played by Oscar winner Angelina Jolie and Golden Globe nominee David Oyelowo.

Calamity (2020) – animation

This hand-drawn animation film is about twelve-year-old Martha Jane, who has to take care of her brother and sister in the United States from 1863. When she is wrongly accused of theft, she is forced to flee. Calamity won the jury prize at the Cinekid Festival earlier this year. Director Rémi Chayé previously collaborated on the Oscar nominee The Secret of Kells.

The Mole Agent (2020) – documentary

Documentary maker Maite Alberdi shows life in a retirement home through the 83-year-old Sergio, a friendly widower who is hired as a private detective. In this mix of documentary and comic spy film, the elderly infiltrator quickly becomes friends with various residents. That way late The Mole Agent see up close what loneliness exists among the elderly. Alberdi won the Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year.

ROH The Nutcracker (2020) – ballet

Also this week a ballet registration of London’s Royal Opera House will appear in the cinema. In a Christmas classic The Nutcracker, with well-known music by Tchaikovsky, the young Clara is transported to a fantasy world. The original piece, based on an old fairytale, was first performed in 1892. The interpretation now in theaters was conceived in 1984 by choreographer Peter Wright.
