A new adventure with Milla Jovovich, a comedy with Robert De Niro and Woody Allen’s 51st feature film will hit theaters this week. A total of nine new titles will be added from Thursday. See which films are involved below.

Monster Hunter (2020) – fantasy

A group of soldiers must fight for their lives in the desert after huge monsters escape from a parallel universe. Leader Artemis (Milla Jovovich) is soon left for dead, but then gets help from a native hunter. Monster Hunter is based on the eponymous game series. It is directed by Paul WS Anderson, who previously worked with Jovovich on the popular Resident Evilmovies.

The Comeback Trail (2020) – comedy

In this comedy, Robert De Niro plays a film producer who is deeply in debt to a criminal (Morgan Freeman). Desperate Max comes up with a plan to have his newest protagonist have an accident so he can collect the insurance premium. Actor Duke Montana (Tommy Lee Jones) turns out not to die so easily.

Rifkin’s Festival (2020) – romantic comedy

Woody Allen is back with a new romantic comedy about a marriage that comes under strain at the San Sebastian Film Festival. Mort does not trust his wife near an emerging talent and is also annoyed at the excessive praise for the young director. The lead role is for Wallace Shawn, who is known for, among other things The Princess Bride and previously played several supporting roles in Allen’s films.

Notturno (2020) – documentary

Documentary maker Gianfranco Rosi filmed for three years in the border areas of Syria, Iraq, Kurdistan and Lebanon. In Notturno he shows how the lives of the local population are constantly disrupted by war and terrorism. Rosi previously won the top prize at the Berlin Film Festival with Fuocoammare, about the refugee island of Lampedusa. Notturno is this year’s Italian Oscar entry.

Let Him Go (2020) – thriller

Kevin Costner and Diane Lane play a retired couple in this thriller, who are deeply concerned about their grandson after the death of their son. The boy has stayed behind with his mother, who now has a dangerous new husband. Costner and Lane previously played a married couple Man of Steel, as the parents of protagonist Clark Kent.

The Dark and the Wicked (2020) – horror

After their mother kills herself, Louise and Michael travel back to their parents’ home. There they watch over their dying father, but in the meantime the remote farm turns out to be possessed by evil forces. Director Bryan Bertino is known for, among other things The Strangers, the horror film that became an unexpected blockbuster in 2008.

Just 6.5 (2020) – thriller

In this Iranian thriller, police officer Samad hopes to solve the drug problem in his country by hunting a major criminal. However, he encounters a web of corruption as the drug lord does everything he can to keep himself and his family safe. Just 6.5 was selected for several international festivals in 2019. The lead role is played by Payman Maadi, known for the Oscar-winning film A Separation.

The Perfect Candidate (2020) – drama

After dealing with sexism while working as a doctor, the Saudi Maryam decides to run for election. While she encounters incomprehension, the ambitious woman tries to take a step towards equal rights in her country. Director Haaifa Al Mansour broke through in 2012 with her emancipation drama Wadjda and later also made the biographical film Mary Shelley.

Katherine Jenkins: Christmas Spectacular from the Royal Albert Hall (2020) – music

Mezzo-soprano Katherine Jenkins gives a Christmas performance at London’s Royal Albert Hall, supported by various performances by dancers and acrobats. Well-known film names such as Bill Nighy and Vanessa Redgrave can also be seen in this Christmas special, which was shot in October and can be seen exclusively in theaters from Thursday.
