Sprint race turns out great for Max Verstappen; fourth pole in a row

It is Verstappen’s fourth pole position in a row, and it immediately earned him three points in the battle for the world title. Hamilton was able to add two thanks to his second place, Bottas scored one.

Verstappen started the new sprint race from second place, behind Hamilton. Of the top 10 in the grid, everyone rode on the medium tyre, except Bottas. The Dutchman shot out of the starting blocks like a rocket and passed Hamilton immediately.

First pole at Silverstone

The Englishman made frantic efforts to regain his first place, but Verstappen gave nothing away. Verstappen has never before managed to start from pole position at Silverstone. Last year he crowned himself the winner in England, during the so-called 70th Anniversary Grand Prix.

The format of this Formula 1 weekend, with a sprint race on Saturday, will be applied twice more later this season. Both in Italy and at another, as yet unknown, location, the drivers will drive this weekend’s schedule.
