Scarlett Johansson cast as Frankenstein’s bride | NOW

Scarlett Johansson is set to star in the science fiction movie Bride, which is based on the horror classic Bride of Frankenstein. The 1936 film is handled by Oscar winner Sebastián Lelio.

Doctor Frankenstein, who can create a living being from dead organs, makes a bride for his iconic monster in the film. Like her predecessor, the new creature rejects her creator and discovers her own powers and identity.

Johansson believes that a film about the bride should have been made much earlier. “To step out of the shadow of her male counterpart and stand on her own two feet,” she explains.

The Chilean Lelio had previously been successful with feminist films Gloria and Una mujer fantástica. The latter won the Oscar for best foreign film in 2018. Gloria got an American remake under Lelio’s direction with Julianne Moore in the lead role.

“Sebastián and I are very excited to emancipate this classic anti-heroine,” says Johansson. “And to revive her story so that she reflects today’s changes.”

Bride is a collaboration between the film studios of Apple and A24. It is still unknown when the new film should be released.

The next big movie that Johansson should be seen in is the Marvel movie Black Widow. However, its release has been postponed several times due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Black Widow should now be released in May 2021.
