RIVM reports 5,407 positive tests, more than six hundred fewer than previous days | NOW

The RIVM reports 5,407 positive corona tests on Sunday. That is more than six hundred less than the past two days, when the number of positive tests was around six thousand.

On Saturday, the number of positive tests on one day rose above six thousand for the first time this week. The RIVM reported 6,093 cases on Saturday, but that number has been adjusted to 6,076, 669 more than on Sunday. On Friday, it concerned 5,974 positive tests.

The number of corona-related deaths rose by 21 on Sunday. On Friday and Saturday, 51 and 48 deaths were reported, respectively.

The figures are sometimes passed on to the RIVM with a delay. That means that not all of the reported patients died or tested positive in the past 24 hours. The delay can increase further on weekends.

Between Wednesday and Saturday, NU.nl compared the number of positive tests with the average of last week (Monday to Friday), because the GGDs had to deal with an IT outage on Wednesday, which affected the reported figures for several days.

Number of patients in hospital increased by 31

The total number of corona patients in hospitals rose by 31 patients on Saturday, reports the National Coordination Center for Patient Distribution (LCPS). There are now a total of 1,933 corona patients in the hospital.

540 of them are in intensive care units (ICs). That number has fallen from Saturday, when 550 IC beds were occupied by COVID-19 patients.
