Corberi provided a scandalous showing on Sunday at the World Cup at Lonato, the circuit run by his family. The driver who crashed out of the race went completely crazy. First, he threw a bumper at his passing competitor Paolo Ippolito, to also attack his fellow countryman afterwards. Corberi also received help from others.
“I want to apologize to the entire motorsport community,” Corberi said in a statement. “I cannot explain why I displayed this disgraceful behavior. After the race I already asked the race management if they wanted to take my license, but they don’t have the power to do so. I have decided not to participate in any motorsport competition for the rest of my life. I’m not playing in my own court with that, but it’s just the right thing to do. ”
Corberi goes deep through the dust in his statement. He calls his behavior “one of the worst chapters in the history of the sport.” The FIA motorsport federation announced earlier on Monday that it would initiate an investigation into the events in Italy.
