Race car driver Renger van der Zande shocked after losing a seat

Van der Zande (34) does not understand the decision of the team, with which he won the prestigious 24 Hours of Daytona this year and 10 hours race Petit Le Mans last weekend. Wayne Taylor Racing is now also leading the US IMSA Championship, with two more races scheduled for this season.

“I think it’s an incredible decision,” says Van der Zande, who will compete with Honda this weekend during the 24-hour race at Spa-Francorchamps. “During Daytona and Petit Le Mans I was the fastest driver in the entire field. What else can I do? I do not know. They have not given me a clear reason. ”

It is striking that Wayne Taylor Racing switches from Cadillac to Acura, a branch of Honda, after this year. Van der Zande, in turn, is also under contract with the Japanese brand, with which he will also be driving in Belgium this weekend.

The Dutchman seems to be the victim of the return of Ricky Taylor, the son of the boss, to the team. He does not want to comment on this himself. “I have achieved a lot with the team in recent years. It is very sad that I hear this so late, because so far I had always been promised that I would get the seat. That makes it extra spicy. I’ve already called around with a number of teams, but many are already full. Here and there there may still be some possibilities. I’m not the type to sit in a corner and cry. I’ll sink my teeth and we’ll go for it. It takes a while, but apparently this is also part of a sport in which there are many interests. ”
