PSV suffers partly due to missed penalty Zahavi loss of points at FC Twente | NOW

PSV failed to take over second place in the Eredivisie from Vitesse on Sunday. The people from Eindhoven came no further than 1-1 when visiting FC Twente.

PSV took the lead in Enschede through Donyell Malen and saw Eran Zahavi miss a penalty. In the second half, Twente top scorer Danilo signed for the equalizer from 11 meters.

PSV drops to fourth place in the ranking due to the points division. The team of trainer Roger Schmidt has twenty points after nine games. The gap to leader Ajax is four points. Twente has two points less than PSV and is fifth.

PSV, which no longer had to miss players in the Grolsch Veste due to the corona virus, will receive a visit from Sparta Rotterdam next Sunday. Twente will play at home against RKC Waalwijk on Friday.

PSV has a strong start in Enschede

PSV could not have access to Mario Götze. The German was not fully fit and was replaced in the starting team by Noni Madueke. Furthermore, trainer Schmidt chose the expected names.

The visitors started strongly in the game in Enschede. Madueke (deep-headed) and Pablo Rosario (header) first encountered Twente goalkeeper Joël Drommel, but Malen simply hit a minute later after a header from Zahahi ended up at the feet of the Orange International via Drommel.

PSV kept the reins and went on the hunt for the 0-2. Cody Gakpo seemed to make it after more than half an hour of play, but the winger’s goal was rejected due to offside.

Just before half-time, PSV received a dubious penalty. Jesse Bosch stepped on Madueke’s foot, but first played the ball. After seeing the images, arbitrator Pol van Boekel pointed to the dot after all. However, Zahavi saw his bet turned by Drommel.

Twente fights back in the second half

After the break, Twente got better and better in the game. After PSV midfielder Ibrahim Sangaré had shot wide, Halil Dervisoglu could only approach goalkeeper Yvon Mvogo, but the attacker did not get the ball under control.

Three minutes later, the ball also went 11 meters for Twente after a bang by Wout Brama landed on Gakpo’s arm. Danilo did not fail and signed for his ninth goal of the season.

The equalizer gave Twente energy and ensured an exciting second half. Mvogo had to save a shot from Danilo and Vaclav Cerný shot just wide.

In the final phase, both teams went looking for the winning goal, but real opportunities were no longer available. Danilo messed up a two-for-one situation for Twente with a bad pass.
