PSV partly thanks to goal Götze well past ten Willem II | NOW

PSV remains on the trail of the leaders Ajax and Vitesse in the Eredivisie. Coach Roger Schmidt’s team was in Eindhoven, partly thanks to a goal by Mario Götze, 3-0 too strong for Willem II, who played with ten men in the last half hour.

PSV already led 2-0 halfway through the first half. Philipp Max opened the score after fifteen minutes and moments later Götze made his second competition goal in the service of the Eindhoven team. Donyell Malen determined the final score eight minutes before the end.

William II hardly posed any danger. Fifteen minutes after the break Mats Köhlert was close to the connecting goal for the visitors, but Yvon Mvogo kept his goal clean with a brilliant save. Moments later, the Tilburg team had to continue with ten men due to a red card for Derrick Köhn, who was penalized for a serious foul on Denzel Dumfries.

PSV then had no more problems with Willem II and went on the hunt for the 3-0. After a number of opportunities were missed, Malen made the decision. In the final phase, Mathias Kjølø made his debut with the home team.

Thanks to the victory, PSV occupies third place with nineteen points from eight games. The gap on Ajax and Vitesse is two points. Willem II can be found in fourteenth place with five points.
