Oscar nomination for Bosnian film Quo vadis, Aida? with Dutch actors | NOW

The Bosnian Movie Quo vadis, Aida? about the fall of Srebrenica has been nominated for an Oscar in the category best international film. This was announced on Monday afternoon at the announcement of all nominees, presented by Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas.

The film features Dutch actors Raymond Thiry, Reinout Bussemaker and Juda Goslinga. The film is also co-produced by the Dutch company N279 Entertainment.

Quo vadis, Aida?, which will not premiere until the end of April due to the corona measures, is about the fall of Srebrenica and the subsequent genocide, committed by Bosnian Serb troops. It cost more than 7,000 Muslim boys and men their lives.

The three homegrown actors play Dutch UN soldiers.

Limp biggest contender with ten nominations

The movie released on Netflix Limp director David Fincher is the top contender at the award ceremony with nominations in ten categories.

In addition to the prize for best film and best direction, the film biography about screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz, who won an Oscar for masterpiece Citizen Kane from 1941, also in the category Best Actor (Gary Oldman), Best Supporting Actress (Amanda Seyfried) and Best Original Film Score.

After Mank the films follow The Father, Nomadland, The Trial of the Chicago 7, Sound of Metal and Minari, each of which won six nominations.

For the first time in the history of the Oscars, two female directors were nominated. Both ChloƩ Zhao (Nomadland) and Emerald Fennell (Promising Young Woman) have a chance to be named best director.

Actor Chadwick Boseman, who died of cancer in 2020, has a posthumous chance to win an Oscar. He is nominated for his supporting role in the movie Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.

In June last year it was announced that the 93rd edition of the Oscars would be moved from February 28 to April 25. The prizes will be awarded from various locations this year because of the corona crisis.
