Director George Miller will begin shooting in June Furiosa, the prequel Mad Max: Fury Road from 2015. The film will be shot in the Australian state of New South Wales, the filmmaker said this weekend, and will be the largest film project made in the country to date.
According to Australian media, about 850 people of the local population can work on the film set and it contributes about 350 million Australian dollars to the local economy (more than 226 million euros).
Anya Taylor-Joy plays the title role Furiosa. The The Queen’s Gambitactress takes over from Charlize Theron, who played the character in Fury Road.
This film is part of the Mad Maxseries that started in 1979 with Mel Gibson in the role of Max, a police officer in a post-apocalyptic world where motorcycle gangs threaten to take over.
Although Theron is all behind Miller’s plans to get the story of Furiosa to tell further, she said last year The Hollywood Reporter know that it is a bitter pill to hand over the role. “It’s definitely a bit heartbreaking. I love that character so much, and I’m grateful that I was part of her creation. She’s someone I’ve always remembered.”
Furiosa must be in cinemas June 2023. It was previously announced that Chris Hemsworth and Yahya Abdul Mateen II can also be seen in the film.
