It is not yet certain that we will see Mick Schumacher in Formula 1 next year, but he has a good chance. The German is currently in the lead of the F2 Championship, but his contenders for the title and a seat in the top class of motorsport come from his own ranks. With Shwartzman and Ilott, the Ferrari Driver Academy has two more irons in the fire.
If it depends on AlphaTauri team boss Franz Tost, a man with a nose for talent, Mick Schumacher is certainly ready.
“He is very grown up,” said the Austrian opposite Sports 1. “I still know him from his days in karting and he has developed well. He has won in every racing class he participated in and he will also be able to hold his own in F1.
“No matter where he drives, he will show that he can be successful in Formula 1. He has already proven that and I am convinced that he can also show it in F1.”
“He will also have to learn. It takes about two to three years for a young driver to get to know Formula 1. Mick is a very conscious rider who studies everything intensively and also deals with the technical side of things. He’s not the one who comes in and sets everything on fire but he’s been successful in everything he’s done. ”
Tost also emphasizes that Schumacher can handle the pressure that his name inevitably brings.
“From the moment he got into a go-kart for the first time, he has had to deal with pressure and then there has been added the pressure on a personal level that the accident brought about by his father.”
Mick Schumacher is currently leading the F2 Championship standings with eight points ahead of his Ferrari Driver Academy colleague Callum Ilott. The other junior from the Scuderia, Robert Shwartzman, is back in fourth place, twenty-one points behind Schumacher.
