The Red Bull driver set a time of 1.32.872 on the softest tire. He was thus eight thousandths of a second faster than Valtteri Bottas, who did ride on the harder medium tyre. Lewis Hamilton set the third fastest time on the softest tire. During the first practice Bottas and Hamilton were a bit faster than Verstappen.
,,I think we got stronger during the session,” said Verstappen. ,,During the first practice I was not completely satisfied and the second practice didn’t start great, but in the second half the car felt a lot better. Overall it’s a good end to the day.”
The Limburger suffered some damage to his front wing at the start of the second session on Paul Ricard after he drove over the yellow kerbstones. As usual during the second practice, the drivers switched to the racing simulations at some point.
In those long runs, Verstappen and Hamilton seemed to be little different from each other on the medium tire.
