Max Verstappen: ‘Nice, but also what I expected’

“It’s our first time driving here, so it was especially important to understand the track,” said Verstappen. “But it was really fun to drive here. It’s a nice track and it will certainly be good in one lap. It’s too early to say how we are actually doing because we still have a lot to look at.”

The session was a bit more representative in terms of conditions than the first training. That second practice started at 5 p.m. local time, just like the qualifying (Saturday) and race (Sunday). The sun has just set in Doha.

Mercedes driver Bottas recorded a time of 1.23.148 on the softest tire. Pierre Gasly (AlphaTauri) was more than two tenths of a second slower. Verstappen recorded the third time at more than three tenths of Bottas. His teammate Lewis Hamilton clocked the fourth fastest time.

Verstappen heard between training sessions that at least he does not have to fear a penalty, now that the stewards have rejected Mercedes’ request for revision. ,,That’s great, but also as I expected,’ says the Dutchman.
