Max Verstappen is disappointed, Lewis Hamilton booed in Budapest

“It has been clear all weekend that we are a bit behind it,” said Verstappen, who starts from third place. “We will see what we can do on Sunday, but of course this is not what I wanted.”

softest tire

Verstappen starts on the softest tire. In hindsight, his time in the second qualifying session on the medium tire would have been just enough for a spot in Q3 and therefore to start the race on the medium rubber.

“It was just on the border, so the risk was too great,” explains Verstappen. “It’s getting very hot, so the soft tire won’t last any longer. But we normally have more grip, so hopefully that will give us a good chance right after the start.”

‘Good feeling when yelling’

During the interviews immediately after qualifying, pole sitter Lewis Hamilton was booed by the Dutch public in particular. “But I’ve never felt so good at the booing,” said the seven-time world champion. “I do not mind. If it does anything to me, it’s that it feeds me.”
