Max Verstappen: ‘Comparing with Mercedes remains a big question mark’

“Every week there are new challenges to overcome and this time will be no different. A lot of things can happen in a race, so we will have to focus on ourselves and no one else,” Verstappen said four days before the race at Circuit of the Americas.

“We’ve always been competitive in the US and have had good results, so now it’s about turning that into a win. We now go to every track knowing that we can at least fight for a podium, but also for a win. And that is different from previous years. It’s going to be another exciting battle this weekend and I’m looking forward to it.”

Friday is the first free practice and the balance can be carefully drawn up again. Verstappen: „We have a very competitive car, but you have to compare it with Mercedes and that is always the big question mark, at every race this season. Hopefully we can face them this weekend and maintain the championship lead.”

Last year the race in Austin was canceled and Verstappen is happy with the return. “When you’re racing in sector two and the start of sector three, there are many different lines you can take, so this track normally provides a lot of action and overtaking,” said the World Cup leader. “Apart from the fact that it’s a great track, there’s always a great atmosphere and great crowd.”

The race is Sunday at 9 p.m.

According to former driver Christijan Albers, Red Bull must take an extra step for the Verstappen championship. He says so in the Formula 1 podcast:
