Marko: ‘Hülkenberg called by Red Bull on Friday’

Hülkenberg was called on Friday by Red Bull adviser Helmut Marko whether he was available, because there were doubts about Alexander Albon’s employability. “He had an uncertain, undefined result of his corona test,” said Marko on the German television channel Sports 1. “That could have been positive. I called Hülkenberg right after landing. We were already talking to him on Friday. ”

Ultimately, Albon ‘just’ tested negative and Max Verstappen’s teammate was able to step in. Hülkenberg replaced the unfit Lance Stroll from twentieth place to eighth place at the Nürburgring. He was called up by that team at the last minute on Saturday. Albon had a dramatic game and was eventually brought in by Red Bull due to a motor problem.

Marko also reiterated that it is the intention to continue with Albon, but that the British Thai must perform. Otherwise Red Bull may still look at drivers from outside, such as Hülkenberg or Sergio Pérez. According to the top man of the racing stable, it is almost impossible for a driver to be within three tenths of a second of Verstappen.
