Lewis Hamilton after blunder in Baku: ‘A humiliating experience’

“A humiliating experience,” said the 36-year-old driver at Ziggo Sports. “I don’t know exactly what went wrong. We were unhappy today. I’m sorry for the team. We have to pick ourselves up and come back in the next race.”

Hamilton saw Max Verstappen, his main rival in the battle for the world title, retire with a blowout five laps before the end. This gave the Mercedes leader an excellent opportunity to retake the lead in the World Cup standings in Baku.

At the restart, with two laps to go, he seemed to pass Sergio Pérez inside. Hamilton, however, braked too late, shot straight ahead and finished outside the points in fifteenth place. In the standings, the Brit is still 4 points behind Verstappen. “I am very disappointed, that seems clear to me.”
