Jimmy Kimmel has apologized for a ‘joke’ at the Emmys. The presenter was on stage as part of a skit when Quinta Brunson was presented with her prize. Critics say that distracted from her moment. Kimmell apologized to the actress on his own talk show.
Brunson won the award Monday night for writing the comedy series Abbott Elementary. Kimmel was dragged onto the stage by Will Arnett to present the award. After Brunson was announced as the winner, she began her acceptance speech, while Kimmel lay in the center of the stage.
Disrespectful, thought viewers and actress Sheryl Lee Ralph, who herself won an Emmy for her supporting role in Abbott Elementary. “I thought, why doesn’t he just get up? Then I realized it was Jimmy. I love Jimmy Kimmel, but this was disrespectful. I said that to his face and he understood,” the actress said.
Brunson was then a guest on Kimmel’s talk show, in which she was allowed to interrupt his monologue to finish her acceptance speech. Later in the program, Kimmel apologized for the “stupid comedy bit”. “The last thing I want to do is make you mad because I think you’re in high spirits.”
Although Kimmel went through the dust, Brunson said he was not angry about the incident. She said she had a great night and Kimmel’s “joke” didn’t bother her much.
