Jennifer Lopez was disappointed by the lack of an Oscar nomination for role in stripper film | NOW

Jennifer Lopez wasn’t happy at first that she wasn’t nominated for an Oscar for her role as a stripper in the movie Hustlers. Her acting performances were recognized at other award ceremonies, but an Oscar nomination was not forthcoming for the American actress.

“Elaine, with whom I produced the film, listed all my nominations and prizes won. And what was clearly missing was an Oscar nomination. That did something to me”, 51-year-old Lopez tells me Allure.

“I thought: what does it mean if I am in everyone’s mind, but not here? Is the role worthy of a nomination? Have others achieved something and not me?”

The actress let it sink in for a moment and then came to the conclusion that she did not want to get carried away by it. “This is not why I do this job. Not to have ten Oscars or twenty Grammys.”

The most important thing is that others enjoy her work, says the singer and actress. “The pleasure I experience when I find that others are entertained or inspired by it, that’s what it’s all about. My life is much more than winning prizes.”

Lopez was nominated for Golden Globe

Hustlers came out in 2019 and is based on an article from The New York Times. The story revolves around two strippers (played by Lopez and Constance Wu) who earn less money during the financial crisis in 2008 and decide to steal money from businessmen together with two colleagues.

Lopez was nominated for a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild Award for her performance.
