GGD: Made ‘thousands of appointments’ for corona vaccine in the first few hours | NOW

In the first few hours that employees of nursing homes could make an appointment for a vaccination against COVID-19, “thousands of appointments” have already been made, umbrella organization GGD GHOR Nederland told on Monday.

GGD GHOR Nederland opened the call center on Monday at 8:00 am. Two thousand employees are ready to schedule appointments. The crowds have so far been manageable: the waiting time has not yet exceeded ten minutes, according to the organization.

From Monday, thousands of nursing home employees will receive an invitation from their employer to get vaccinated shortly. The vaccination will start on Friday, January 8 in Houten, Veghel and Rotterdam. Amsterdam, Drenthe and Haaglanden will follow on 11 January and the other GGD regions on 15 January.

All employees in the call center are transfer staff from the test call center. “Most of them have now been trained in conducting the conversation necessary to determine whether a person may be vaccinated in connection with contraindications,” said GGD GHOR. “The last of them will be trained for the next few days.”

Nursing home employees are the first to be vaccinated

According to the cabinet’s vaccination strategy, care staff in nursing homes are first vaccinated and then the residents of the homes. People who work in acute care are also vaccinated as soon as possible. That was announced on Saturday.

This includes not only nurses and doctors who work in intensive care, the emergency department or a corona ward, but also ambulance personnel. General practitioners will also be vaccinated with priority.
