Arne Slot will be the new trainer of Feyenoord from next season. The former AZ coach will succeed Dick Advocaat, the Rotterdam club announced on Tuesday.
The 42-year-old Slot signs a contract until the summer of 2023. In addition, Feyenoord also has an option to extend the contract by one year.
“Arne has developed in recent years into a successful trainer with a recognizable playing style, whereby players continue to develop excellently, which is of course very important for Feyenoord,” says technical director Frank Arnesen on the Feyenoord website.
“Moreover, we have great confidence that he will soon be able to continue his performance under Dick Advocaat’s leadership,” says Arnesen. The 73-year-old Lawyer announced at the beginning of this month that he will leave Feyenoord at the end of the season and will not train a club after that.
Slot dismissed by AZ because of talks with Feyenoord
Shortly afterwards it became clear that Slot was in talks with the Rotterdam club. AZ’s management was so upset about this that Slot was fired immediately.
The former midfielder of PEC Zwolle, NAC Breda and Sparta Rotterdam will only be presented in De Kuip at the end of the season. The club wants to keep the focus on the current season. John de Wolf will remain active as an assistant under Slot.
After last week’s elimination in the Europa League, Feyenoord is only active in its own country this season. In the KNVB Cup, Advocaat’s team has been released for the second round and is therefore already certain of a place in the eighth final.
In the Eredivisie, Feyenoord is third, four points behind leader Ajax. The top match against Vitesse is on the program in Arnhem on Sunday.
