The race north of Doha had been imminent for some time, but is now completely official. It ensures that this Formula 1 season is 22 races on the calendar, one less than originally planned. The Qatar Grand Prix follows immediately after races in Mexico and Brazil. There are still seven races to go, five of which will be in the last six weeks.
From 2023, the Qatar Grand Prix will be on the Formula 1 calendar for ten years. Next season the race will be missing there, because of the World Cup. The race will start at 6:00 PM local time, under artificial lighting. It may be possible to move to another track in the future, or to change the current track.
The provisional calendar for 2022 is expected to be presented in October, with 23 races. As previously reported, the Grand Prix of the Netherlands at Circuit Zandvoort next year is scheduled again in the first weekend of September.
