Feyenoord climbs to third place thanks to Linssen’s hat-trick against Heerenveen | NOW

Feyenoord has closed the 2020 calendar year well. Thanks to a hat-trick by Bryan Linssen, the team from Rotterdam were 3-0 too strong for sc Heerenveen in their own house on Wednesday and climb to third place in the Eredivisie.

A strong playing Feyenoord had already created the necessary chances to open the score before half-time, but the post and the crossbar, among other things, stood in the way of a hit by the home team.

After the break, Feyenoord did manage to score and Linssen was the big man. The attacker first headed in a measured cross, shot not much later after a good action by Steven Berghuis and also headed the 3-0 against the ropes in injury time. It is Linssen’s first hat-trick at Feyenoord.

Due to the victory over Heerenveen, Feyenoord is now number three in the Eredivisie. Just like Vitesse, the team from Rotterdam has 29 points, but has a better goal difference. The gap to leader Ajax is five points.

The winter break is now starting for Feyenoord and Heerenveen. On January 10, the Eredivisie will continue for the team of trainer Dick Advocaat with an away match against Sparta Rotterdam. Heerenveen will play at home against Fortuna Sittard that day.

Feyenoord lord and master in-house

Feyenoord had to do without Nicolai Jørgensen (injured), but made a good impression in De Kuip. Berghuis was the end station of a nice attack after three minutes, but his shot was turned by Heerenveen goalkeeper Erwin Mulder.

Halfway through the first half, Luciano Narsingh had the 1-0 on his shoe. However, the attacker slipped a Mark Diemers cross on the outside of the post. Before half time, Narsingh saw how the aluminum prevented another goal. He dribbled past two defenders and fired on the bottom of the crossbar.

Heerenveen offered little in return, although Henk Veerman could have hit just before half-time. The striker was able to go to goal after a misperception by Eric Botteghin, but Veerman’s punt failed completely and went well wide.

Linssen strikes three times after the break

Even after the break, Feyenoord was the better team and Heerenveen could not impress, but now the difference in strength was expressed in the score. Tyrell Malacia steamed up on the left and found Linssen with a measured cross. The small attacker headed straight.

It was Linssen’s first goal in De Kuip since his transition last summer. The thirty-year-old right leg doubled that production ten minutes later. Berghuis broke through on the right and put the ball ready for Linssen, who could easily put the 2-0 on the board.

This 2-0 fell in the 58th minute, but the game was already decided. The visitors did not in any way give the impression that there was still something to be gained and did not get any more opportunities. Feyenoord also showed little more. The final chord was for Linssen, who made his third of the evening in the final minute with a striking header.
