Producer Els Vandevorst from production company N279 Entertainment is “euphoric and enthusiastic” about the Oscar nomination for the Bosnian film, announced on Monday. Quo vadis, Aida?. The drama about the genocide in Srebrenica in 1995 has a chance of winning a frame for best foreign film.

“It is very nice when a film that is so different and different is recognized in this way and gets a big stage,” said Vandevorst. “This story must be told and remembered, for the victims and the next of kin.”

Director Jasmila Zbanic spent years researching the fall of Srebrenica to do the story justice. “This nomination is primarily for her”, says Vandevorst. “And to all those who helped her complete this difficult project.”

Vandevorst said she wanted to watch the nominations with her two business partners, including director Martin Koolhoven. “But he is at home with the corona virus and my other partner Isabella is waiting for the results of a test,” says the producer. “But in the app group of the film we are now quite celebrating.”

Actor Raymond Thiry confirms the festive mood in the film’s app group, cited by Vandevorst. “I didn’t realize at all that the nominations were already today,” said the actor. “But the Dutchbat app, which contains all Dutch actors and crew members, exploded fifteen minutes ago.” According to Thiry, the success of this film is mainly a group earnings.

It is intended that Quo vadis, Aida? can be seen in Dutch cinemas at the end of April.
