Dominic West is set to play Prince Charles in the Netflix series The Crown. British actor Josh O’Connor, who plays Prince Charles in the series’ third and fourth seasons, revealed in an interview with GQ who will be his successor.
It has been rumored for some time that West, known from the series, among other things The Affair and The Wire, the role of the British heir apparent in the hit series.
Netflix hasn’t confirmed the news yet, but O’Connor has now. “Playing the character has given me a lot of fun. But it’s nice to walk away and pass the baton to Dominic West,” said the actor.
While the streaming service hasn’t announced Charles’s role in the last two seasons, other major roles have already been announced. Imelda Staunton, Lesley Manville and Jonathan Pryce take over the roles of Olivia Coleman as Queen Elizabeth, Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret and Tobias Menzies as Prince Philip respectively. It is also known who plays Charles’ ex-wife Diana: Elizabeth Debicki succeeds Emma Corrin in that role.
It is not yet known when the fifth and penultimate season will be shown. Reported earlier Deadline that the recordings should start in June.
