In another eight regions, the number of corona infections has risen to such an extent that the situation is now ‘very serious’. They have been given the fourth and highest risk level on the corona chart. This status applies from Wednesday in the safety regions Kennemerland, Gooi and Vechtstreek, Central and West Brabant, Brabant-North, Gelderland-Central, Gelderland-South, Twente and Limburg-North.
These eight regions now have the same risk level as Amsterdam-Amstelland, Rotterdam-Rijnmond, Haaglanden, Utrecht, Hollands-Midden, Zaanstreek-Waterland, South Holland South, and Brabant-Southeast.
The risk level also increased on Wednesday in Noord-Holland Noord and IJsselland. The situation there changed from ‘worrisome’ to ‘serious’. This status already applied in Groningen, Friesland, Drenthe, Flevoland and North and East Gelderland. In Zeeland and South Limburg, the situation remains ‘worrying’, the second lowest risk level. No region has the lowest level, ‘watchful’.
The risk level has no consequences for the time being. The tough measures announced by the cabinet last week apply across the country and will remain in effect for at least three more weeks. When the number of new infections has fallen enough, the cabinet wants to switch to a regional approach. In that case, separate measures and restrictions must apply in each region based on the risk level. For example, with ‘very serious’ no events are possible, with worrisome and serious this can be done on a small scale. Moreover, at risk level ‘very serious’, for example, fewer people are allowed to attend a wedding.
