The curfew has been in effect on Saturday from 9 p.m. until 4.30 a.m. no one is allowed outside the Netherlands without a valid reason. The cabinet introduced the measure this week to combat the corona virus.
During curfew, people are not allowed to go out on the street or in other public places. Among others, people who are on the road for work or in a medical emergency are allowed to go outside. An exception also applies to informal carers.
It is necessary that they can submit a self-signed official statement, which can be downloaded from the website of the national government. Anyone who is on the road for work also needs an official employer’s statement. Anyone who is unjustly outside risks a fine of 95 euros.
Walking the dog is allowed, but only on your own and with the animal on a leash.
The cabinet originally wanted the curfew to start at 8.30 pm, but made a compromise with the House of Representatives by leaving the starting time for half an hour.
For the time being, the curfew will apply every evening and night until the early morning of Wednesday, February 10. A week earlier, the cabinet will decide whether the measure should be extended.
