Cabinet is considering curfew, possibly from 8.30 pm | NOW

‘Curfew will apply between 8:30 PM and 4:30 AM’
The curfew in the Netherlands may apply between 8:30 PM and 4:30 AM and will be instituted from Friday. Without a valid reason, someone is not allowed to go outside between those times, insiders report Tuesday evening NOS and RTL News. The details of the curfew are in the first proposal discussed in the Security Council on Tuesday evening. The times can still shift, earlier plans for a curfew between 8 p.m. and 4 a.m. were leaked.

This morning, the cabinet will make a final decision on the curfew. It also has to be approved by the Lower House. Should that approval come, the curfew could potentially remain in effect until the end of the current lockdown measures on February 9. In addition to the curfew, the cabinet would also want people at home to receive only one guest a day. Fewer guests at funerals are also being considered.

It is still unclear whether the other measures on the table will also be taken when a curfew comes, or whether they are an alternative to it. The Outbreak Management Team (OMT) was asked to investigate the effects of a curfew, but also to look for alternatives.

In the afternoon, outgoing Prime Minister Mark Rutte and Corona Minister Hugo de Jonge will hold a press conference.
