All schools must remain closed from Wednesday, online education is the norm | NOW

All schools must close their doors and switch to online education from Wednesday. This corona measure will in any case be in force until Monday, January 18, Prime Minister Mark Rutte announced on Monday during his speech about the new, severe lockdown.

“This is of course drastic, but an inevitable decision,” said Rutte from the Torentje in The Hague. Just like during the lockdown in the spring, exceptions are made.

For example, students are still allowed to go to school during the exam year. Lessons in practical education can also take place. In addition, exams and exams may be offered to vulnerable children at schools.

Childcare must also close its doors. Children of parents with a crucial profession can go to primary education or childcare.

More and more infections in schools

Schools and daycare centers are increasingly being reported to the GGDs as the places where people think they have become infected. Only the home situation, visit in the home situation and the work situation are mentioned more often.

Relatively most corona infections are diagnosed in teenagers. This is also reflected in the latest weekly update of the RIVM, which was published last Tuesday.

The update also stated that the number of positive corona tests per 100,000 inhabitants in all age groups had increased from a week earlier. The increase was greatest among 13 to 17 year olds and 18 to 24 year olds.

At the end of November, the Outbreak Management Team (OMT) announced that the possibility of a longer Christmas holiday for students should be investigated, because more days off may contribute to the further reduction of the number of new infections.
