Ajax is back alone in the lead in the Eredivisie. The team from Amsterdam simply won 2-4 visits to ADO Den Haag on Sunday. Quincy Promes made his comeback as a substitute after he was arrested last week as a suspect in a stabbing.
Halfway through Ajax was already on a 0-4 lead due to goals from Dusan Tadic, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (twice) and Zakaria Labyad. ADO came back to 2-4 after the break thanks to hits from Michiel Kramer and Samy Bourard.
Thanks to the victory, Ajax again has three points ahead of its closest pursuer PSV, which was too strong for RKC Waalwijk on Saturday 1-4. The team of trainer Erik ten Hag has already scored 51 times after thirteen rounds and that is a club record.
Promes came halfway into the field. The attacker was arrested on Sunday last week and spent two nights in jail. He is still a suspect in the case, but may await the continuation of the investigation in freedom. On Thursday he trained with Ajax for the first time.

First chance hit immediately
Ajax started the duel with number seventeen ADO with difficulty. The visitors played at a slow pace, which meant that hardly any opportunities were created in the opening phase. Only Huntelaar created danger with a header that went wide from a corner kick.
The first big chance resulted in the 0-1 for Ajax after twenty minutes. Tadic simply tapped the ball in at the far post after a tight cross by Sean Klaiber and good preparatory work by Labyad.
After that it went fast and Ajax already led 0-4 after 32 minutes. Huntelaar took care of the 0-2 (cross Daley Blind and foul goalkeeper Luuk Koopmans) and the 0-4 (cross Antony) with the head. In between, Labyad was responsible for the 0-3 on the instructions of Antony.
Michiel Kramer puts André Onana on the wrong track.
Ajax slows down after the break
In the second half Ajax took it a lot easier with three changes (Promes for Antony, Kenneth Taylor for Ryan Gravenberch and Lisandro Martínez for Nicolás Tagliafico) and that lax attitude was partly punished by ADO.
Kramer completed the 1-4 in the 49th minute and Bourard signed for the 2-4 in the seventieth minute with a hard shot, whereby keeper André Onana did not go free. But it didn’t get really exciting for a moment.
Ajax itself missed a handful of great opportunities. Promes, among others, should have scored, but he shot right at Koopmans. As a result, PSV’s very old goal record (55 goals in the 1987/1988 season) remained intact after thirteen rounds of play.
